What is a rubber strainer and what is its function?

A rubber strainer is a specialized piece of equipment used to remove impurities from rubber compounds, belonging to a branch of rubber extruders. Its core function is to achieve solid-liquid separation through mechanical pressure, ensuring the purity of the rubber raw material to meet the quality requirements of subsequent processing.

Working Principle:
  1. Preheating and Feeding:

Before starting the equipment, the barrel and die head need to be preheated to 70–80℃ to ensure the fluidity of the rubber compound. The rubber compound is fed into the barrel through a double-wrist feeding system or a feeding port.

  2. Screw Conveying and Compression:

The motor drives the screw to rotate, pushing the rubber compound forward. Under the action of the screw rotation, the rubber compound is compressed, mixed, and plasticized, forming a certain pressure.

  3. Filtration and Separation:

The high-pressure rubber compound is forcibly pushed to the die head. The die head is equipped with a conical perforated plate (the orifice diameter is usually 4–8 mm) and multiple layers of filter screens. Under pressure, the rubber compound is forced through these tiny filter pores, while insoluble impurities such as iron filings, nylon, and paper scraps, as well as some chlorinated chemical contaminants, are trapped by the filter screen.

  4. Discharge:

The filtered, pure rubber compound is extruded from the die head and collected for subsequent extrusion molding and other processes. Trapped impurities accumulate on the filter screen surface, requiring periodic shutdown for cleaning or replacement.

Main Applications:
  • Reclaimed Rubber Production:

Purifying recycled rubber (such as recycled EPDM) to remove impurities such as nylon rope and iron filings is a key pretreatment step before reclaimed rubber production.

  • Cable Coating:

Providing pure rubber coating materials for cable production, ensuring the insulation performance and service life of the cables.

  • Compound Rubber Filtration:

Filtering out incompletely dispersed compounding agents or impurities during the compound rubber production process, improving the uniformity and quality of the rubber compound.

  • Silica gel filtration:

Used for the purification of silicone rubber raw materials.

  • Specific rubber product molding:

In addition to filtration, some rubber filter presses can also be used for the direct molding and extrusion of specific rubber products.
